Hate Story 3 has all the ingredients that would make a jolly producer jump with joy: An overwrought plot, two hot girls who do nothing but manipulate, men who earn tons of money from mysterious sources, some cheap thrills and a healthy dose of sex.

In between all this, there is a trace of a story so contrived, it'd put you asleep for days. And when you wake up, you'll find the film still playing with an added layer.

So, Karan Singh Grover, who looks like a cross between a gym instructor and a runway model, threatens to destroy Sharman Joshi's life if he doesn't let his wife (Zareen Khan) spend a 'night' with him. Obviously, this doesn't go down well with Sharman.

The competition then is between the number of veins Karan can brandish on his forehead and Sharman's perky nipples that get more screen-time than some of the supporting members of the cast.

Daisy Shah of Jai Ho plays Sharman's secretary-turned-enemy, who helps his rival plot his fall. Eventually, like the audience, even she loses the thread of the story and forgets who's double-crossing who. Good time to bump her off. And voila, she's out of the film, just like that.

Director Vishal Pandya is too obsessed with dialogues reminiscent of a different century and instead of lending the film a 'thrilling' vibe, these lines make the movie tacky, melodramatic and most crucially, dated.

"Main tumse usko barbaad karne ka sauda karna chahta hoon," these lines don't resonate with the current crop of movie-goers where a more realistic treatment is given to even the most mainstream movies. (Sharman keeps using the word 'bloody rascal'. Yes.)

The songs literally come of out of nowhere, hammering further the already fractured narrative. As far as the film's USP is concerned, there is quite a heady dose of it. Zareen and KSG have a full-blown lovemaking scene and then he promptly makes out with Daisy too. For no rhyme or reason. Just on a whim.

However, that is not the performance you would like to evaluate. As far as acting is concerned, the usually likeable Sharman is in a starkly unfamiliar territory. He looks uncomfortable, shows too much aggression when angry (Bloody Rascal!) and appears camera-conscious.

Daisy is the worst of the lot. Her accent stands out weirdly, while the lack of acting skills is as visible as the plunging neckline. KSG and Zareen sail through (that is when Karan is not getting killed repeatedly), but there's nothing too impressive here.

If you are looking for cheap thrills (the ending will make you question life itself) like some canoodling couples I saw in a morning show, you'd probably come out laughing with the film's unintentional hilarity. Else, this one needs to be skipped and permanently forgotten.
